Shuttleworth Program
Step into the golden age of aviation with an unforgettable week at the world-famous Shuttleworth Collection — one of the world’s most cherished historic aviation collections, set within a stunning and active airfield environment.
This unique 5-day aviation experience gives students the chance to immerse themselves in classic aviation, aircraft engineering, flying, and design while surrounded by some of the rarest and most iconic aircraft ever built.
Based at the incredible Shuttleworth airfield, students will explore how aircraft are designed, built, restored, and flown — combining hands-on engineering activities with simulator flying, aviation challenges, and real airfield experiences.
With flying available on-site (subject to weather and operational availability), students will experience the atmosphere of a real working airfield throughout the week.
Arrive from 9am, the day starts at 9.30 with a briefing. Throughout the week, students will take part in a variety of exciting aviation-themed activities, including:
🛠️ Aircraft Design & Engineering Day
Become an aviation engineer for the day by designing and building something that flies. Students will explore aircraft structures, aerodynamics, and engineering principles through practical build challenges and aviation design activities.
✈️ Aero Modelling & RC Flight
Learn the fundamentals of aero modelling and RC flying while building and testing aircraft designs inspired by real aviation engineering techniques.
🪂 Gliding & Flight Operations
Discover how gliders work, learn the process of rigging a glider, and explore the fascinating world of engine-less flight and soaring aviation.
🛩️ Virtual Historic Aircraft Flying Experience
Students will have the opportunity to learn about and fly aircraft from the Shuttleworth Collection in simulators, studying the real aircraft, pilot procedures, and handling characteristics of classic aviation legends.
✈️ Airbus A320 Airline Day
Step into the world of modern commercial aviation and experience what it’s like to operate the Airbus A320 through realistic simulator flying and airline-style procedures.
🔧 Aviation Restoration & Engineering
Explore the incredible work involved in restoring and preserving historic aircraft, including insight into real Spitfire rebuild projects and classic aircraft maintenance.
Alongside the themed activities, students will enjoy:
Hands-on simulator flying
Aircraft building and engineering projects
Aviation games and teamwork challenges
Opportunities to observe live flying activity
Real-world aviation knowledge
A unique historic airfield atmosphere
Students may also have the chance to experience special simulator sessions, including flying experiences linked to aircraft from the Shuttleworth Collection.
