Program – Ulster Aviation Museum

Get ready for an unforgettable week of fast jets, military aviation, restoration engineering, test flying, and real mission planning at the Ulster Aviation Museum. This exciting 5-day holiday club is designed for students fascinated by military aircraft, engineering, and the exciting world of aviation operations.

Based in a unique museum environment surrounded by incredible historic aircraft, students will step into the shoes of fast jet pilots, military mission planners, restoration engineers, and emergency aviation teams through hands-on activities, simulator flying, and exciting aviation challenges.

Throughout the week, students will explore the fascinating world of military aviation — learning how aircraft are designed, tested, restored, and operated in real missions.

Throughout the week, students will take part in a range of exciting themed days, including:

🔥 Fast Jets & Formation Flying Day

Learn the fundamentals of flying high-performance military aircraft, including speed, manoeuvring, and formation flying. Students will explore historic fast jets displayed in the museum to discover how aircraft were designed for different military roles before taking part in formation and combat flying missions in simulators.

🧑‍✈️ Test Pilot Day

Discover what it takes to become a test pilot and how aircraft are evaluated for performance, handling, and safety. Students will work through structured flight test exercises, flying simulator missions and recording observations before completing their own test pilot debrief.

🔧 Aircraft Restoration & Engineering Day

Step into the world of vintage aircraft restoration and learn how specialists preserve historic aircraft. Students will explore aircraft structures, materials, and engineering techniques while taking part in hands-on workshop activities and learning from restoration experts and aviation engineers.

🎯 Military Mission Planning Day

Discover how military flying missions are planned and coordinated. Students will explore historic military aircraft and learn how pilots assess threats, weather, fuel, navigation, timing, and communication before planning their own low-level reconnaissance mission.

🚁 Air Ambulance Operations Day

Learn how air ambulance teams operate and the unique skills required for emergency helicopter flying. Students will explore rescue planning, hover flight, landing zones, and emergency coordination before working in teams to complete a simulated rescue mission. Students may also hear from real air ambulance professionals about careers in emergency aviation.

Alongside the themed activities, students will enjoy:

  • Hands-on simulator flying

  • Fast jet and military aviation challenges

  • Aircraft engineering and restoration activities

  • Tactical mission planning exercises

  • Teamwork and leadership challenges

  • Opportunities to explore incredible historic aircraft

As the Ulster Aviation Museum is a live visitor and heritage environment, some activities and specialist sessions may vary depending on operational availability and guest speakers — helping make every week unique.
