The first part of the process is making sure we have your details using the form above. We need to know WHERE you live and a little bit about your flying experience.
STEP 1 - QUALIFICATION: We will then have a phone call and/or a Zoom call with one of our team. We want to assess:
- That have the communication skills to engage with and inspire young people

STEP 2 - BACKGROUND CHECKS:

- Seek copies if your qualifications, (license/log book).
- ID (passport/drivers license) and take references.
STEP 3 - TRAINING: This is designed to be efficient and take the minimum amount of time whilst giving you everything you need to do a great job, it is usually done online.

STEP 4 - MEETING YOUR SCHOOL:
If you are working in a school club, you will have a relaxed interview/meeting with your school and go through an ‘onboarding’ process as a part time member of staff (wifi, door codes, security pass, orientation).
ONGOING SUPPORT:
Whilst you are expected to be able to run your classes autonomously, you will have a team of local fellow BYP instructors and a regional team leader to help and lots of help from BYP HQ to make sure your club runs without a hitch.
Passing the baton to the next generation and sharing the wisdom and experience you have built through your life’s work is a highly rewarding and life affirming task.
If you are a passionate aviator with a few hours spare each week, this could be a rewarding and enjoyable next step in your aviation journey and with rates of pay up to £75 per hour, it’s a useful income stream too!
THE ROLE:
As a BYP instructor your core role is to teach in a classroom. You will guide groups of 11-17 year olds through the BYP Syllabus that we will provide, starting with the basics and leading them through their ground exams and hopefully, onto a pilots license.
The BYP syllabus is easy to follow, each lesson has a clear lesson plan complete with powerpoint slides, videos, quizzes and everything you need to run a great lesson. All you need to do is bring the subject to life and inject your real world experience.
BYP will supply you with everything you need, from initial training and set up all the way through to easy to follow lesson plans and communications with your students and their parents with regular updates and newsletters.
Commitment:
The minimum level of commitment is just one to two hours of teaching per week but you can do a lot more. Bear in mind that each session you teach requires some preparation and set up. We require you to commit to a terms worth of sessions (around 10 classes) but if you are an airline pilot for example, we can arrange a job share so you can teach in your off weeks. Together we will devise a clear schedule for each term.
Walk Through a Typical Day:
BEFORE:
Sometime before your lesson you will need to log into the BYP instructor portal and read your lesson plan, run through the powerpoint slides and familiarise yourself with the topic.
You will need to turn on your Xbox’s, and set your day’s flying exercise up.
Make sure your powerpoint slides or white board are set up and any videos you want to use up on the screen ready to play.
THE LESSON:
As your students arrive, spend a few minutes chatting to them, some may be excited as they flew a real aircraft at the weekend at the airfield so you invite them to tell the class about their flight.
You are now ready to teach. Introduce your Topic, play the video clip that’s embedded in the power point and follow the slides, taking questions and having a classroom discussion at the end.
After approximately 30 it’s time to move onto the SIMs. You will need to give a demonstration and then allow the students to have a go!
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for people who love aviation and most importantly, are keen to share their love of flying with others.
BYP instructors come from all parts of the aviation world, from commercial airline or military pilots to GA weekend flyers - the key attribute is passion for flight. You should have a good depth of knowledge and the ability to communicate and inspire.
We are keen to hear from:
- GA/Microlight Pilots
- Retired/Active professional pilots
- Flying instructors or aspiring airline pilots who are are working towards (or already have) and CPL/ATPL license
This is more than just a job, you will be joining a growing community of aviators and you will have plenty of opportunity to meet up with fellow aviators too.
