Fleet Air Arm Museum & Middlezoy Aerodrome
The best of both worlds! Three days at one of the UK's most impressive aviation museums, plus two days at a live aerodrome including a real flight.
PROGRAM – MIDDLEZOY AERODROME & FLEET AIR ARM MUSEUM
Get ready for an action-packed week of aviation, engineering, navigation, flight simulation, and hands-on flying. This unique 5-day holiday club combines three exciting days at the Fleet Air Arm Museum with two days at Middlezoy Aerodrome, giving students an unrivalled opportunity to explore aviation history, technology, and real-world flight operations.
Led by the fantastic Martin Baldock, an ex-Royal Navy Pilot and Virgin Atlantic Captain who keeps his own vintage warbird at Middlezoy, students will learn directly from an experienced aviator while experiencing aviation in both a museum and live airfield environment.
Across the week, students will discover the science, systems, and teamwork behind aviation through a mixture of practical activities, simulators, aircraft exploration, navigation exercises, engineering challenges, and real flying experiences.
Throughout the week, students will take part in a range of exciting themed activities, including:
✈️ Fleet Air Arm Museum Experience
Spend three days exploring one of the UK's most impressive aviation museums, home to iconic military aircraft, helicopters, naval aviation exhibits, and interactive displays. Students will discover the history of naval aviation, explore legendary aircraft up close, and take part in engaging aviation-themed activities inspired by the collection.
🎮 Flight Simulation & Pilot Skills
Develop core flying skills using aviation simulators while learning about aircraft controls, navigation, communication, and decision-making. Students will experience the challenges pilots face and build confidence before stepping into a real aircraft.
⚙️ Aircraft Engineering & Technical Day
Get up close to real aircraft and explore how they are built, maintained, and operated. Students may have opportunities to examine aircraft systems, flight controls, engine components, and the engineering principles that keep aircraft flying safely.
🎧 Air Traffic Control & Airfield Operations
Step into the world of air traffic control and discover how aircraft movements are coordinated safely on the ground and in the air. Students will learn aviation communication, practise ATC phraseology, and work together to simulate real operational scenarios.
🗺️ Navigation & Mission Challenge
Learn how pilots plan routes, navigate using maps and visual references, and make decisions in changing conditions. Students will put their new skills to the test through exciting mission-based challenges.
🛩️ Real Flying Experience
The highlight of the week! Students will have the opportunity to take to the skies in a real aircraft, experiencing firsthand what it feels like to fly from a live aerodrome under the guidance of experienced aviation professionals.
Alongside the themed activities, students will enjoy:
• Flight simulator sessions
• Real aircraft flying experience
• Hands-on aviation activities
• Aircraft engineering challenges
• Navigation and teamwork exercises
• Aviation communication skills
• Opportunities to get up close to historic and operational aircraft
• Learning from experienced aviation professionals
As Middlezoy is a live operational aerodrome, flying activities and aircraft access may vary depending on operational requirements and weather conditions, helping make every week unique and authentic.
Please note: Flying activities are subject to weather, aircraft availability, and operational considerations. Camping may be available directly through the airfield but is not arranged or supervised by British Young Pilots.
