BYP Holiday Club – Elstree Aerodrome

Get ready for an action-packed week of aviation, engineering, rockets, and fast jets at Elstree Aerodrome. This unique BYP Holiday Club is designed for students who love not only flying, but also the science, engineering, and technology behind aviation.

Based just opposite the airfield within walking distance of live aircraft activity, students will spend the week immersed in the world of aerospace — learning from experienced aviation and engineering mentors while taking on exciting hands-on projects and flying missions.

Led by aerospace engineering student and glider pilot Callum, students will explore everything from aircraft design and supersonic flight to rockets, drones, and air traffic control.

Throughout the week, students will take part in a range of exciting themed days, including:

🛠️ Aircraft Design & Engineering Day

Become an aerospace engineer for the day. Students will work through a complete aircraft design study — designing their own aircraft, making real engineering decisions, and constructing elements from 3D printed components to meet a mission brief.

✈️ Fast Jets & Supersonic Flight Day

Discover the world of high-speed aerodynamics and fast jet operations. Students will learn how supersonic aircraft are designed and flown before taking on exciting fast jet simulator missions.

🚀 Rocket Science Day

A full day dedicated to rockets, propulsion, and spaceflight. Students will explore real rocket science concepts and experience hands-on rocket activities and demonstrations.

🎧 Air Traffic Control & Tower Operations Day

Step into the world of air traffic control and learn how controllers safely manage aircraft movements. Students will also explore what happens when mistakes occur and how aviation systems are designed to keep flying safe.

🛩️ Airfield Study & Tower Visit

Students will study how a real aerodrome operates, explore airfield systems and procedures, and visit the control tower to experience aviation operations from the controller’s perspective.

Alongside the themed activities, students will enjoy:

  • Hands-on simulator flying

  • Engineering and design challenges

  • Aviation games and teamwork missions

  • Rocket and drone activities

  • Real-world aviation and aerospace knowledge

  • Opportunities to observe live aircraft operations at Elstree

This club is perfect for students interested in becoming pilots, aerospace engineers, or simply anyone fascinated by aviation technology and how aircraft work.
