Our first ever accelerator Programme!
This summer marked a major milestone for British Young Pilots as we welcomed six students onto our very first Accelerator Programme.
Designed for aspiring aviators aged 15+, the programme supports students working towards one of aviation's biggest milestones: their first solo flight.
Over the course of the week, students combined intensive ground school with practical airfield experience, studying key pilot subjects including Air Law and Human Factors, while developing essential hands-on skills.
Throughout the programme, students:
Completed daily ground school lessons in Air Law and Human Factors.
Sat their first written aviation examinations.
Trained on flight simulators.
Learned aircraft marshalling procedures.
Practised aircraft refuelling under supervision.
Gained an insight into Air Traffic Control operations.
Flew dedicated training lessons with experienced instructors.
Learned alongside a group of equally passionate aspiring pilots.
By the end of the week, every student completed approximately two hours of flight training, building valuable experience in the cockpit.
The examinations proved to be an excellent learning experience. One student successfully passed the Air Law examination, while three students passed Human Factors. Although not everyone achieved the results they were aiming for, the week highlighted an important lesson in aviation: understanding the knowledge is only part of the challenge—carefully interpreting questions and applying that knowledge to real-world scenarios is equally important.
Students will continue revising over the coming weeks before sitting the examinations again in four weeks' time, with the experience from this first attempt placing them in a much stronger position.
We're incredibly proud of our first Accelerator cohort. Beyond the flying and exams, the students spent the week sharing knowledge, supporting one another and developing the professionalism expected of future pilots.
This first Accelerator Programme marks an exciting new chapter for British Young Pilots, and we look forward to watching these students continue their journey towards their first solo flight.
